Yves summarises the schedule beginning with the site preparation work that commenced in September 2011, describing the progress made on the site to date and highlighting the plans to commence commissioning of the new plants by December 2012. Canada Lithium Corp., a "clean-tech" mine developer is constructing an open-pit lithium carbonate mine and processing plant in Lacorne Township near Val d'Or, Quebec to meet the growing needs of the emerging global market for electric and hybrid electric vehicles, as well as grid-storage solutions. It is anticipated that commissioning of the mine and plant will occur in late 2012 and full production of an annualized 20,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate to commence in Q3 2013. Metallurgical tests have produced battery-grade lithium carbonate from deposit samples and the Company plans to market its products in North America, Europe and Asia. A positive outcome will give investors confidence regarding Sileach(TM) as an alternative technology for the recovery of lithium. Sileach(TM) has the potential to reduce the cost of lithium chemical production from hard rock sources by eliminating roasting, a major cost associated with chemical production, as well as increasing by-product credit revenue. The results of the test work from Lepidolite Hill and Pilgangoora are important for the validation of Sileach, however we believe the results from Pilgangoora will most likely have the most significant impact on the company's share price, given the potential for a Joint Venture with Pilbara Minerals for the development of a lithium conversion facility (depending on the outcome of a series of test work programs and feasibility studies). We expect results from the test work to be announced during October. Exploration: As highlighted in our initiation report, LIT has one of the largest portfolios of prospective lithium projects on the ASX. Despite this we believe there is little value in LIT's share price for these assets. Exploration work has commenced at Ravensthorpe and Greenbushes, both located in close proximity to two major producing lithium operations. A discovery at either project would result in a significant share price re-rating. The initial drill program at Ravensthope is due to commence in the coming months. Lithium itself is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. It is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. Like all alkali metals, lithium is highly reactive and flammable. So this isn’t something you’d want just laying around your house. Especially if you have a toddler running around like I do... So Lithium is a metal so it must be mined right, like copper? Well, not exactly. It’s true lithium can be mined from rocks but mostly it’s found in brine pools. Lithium is also present in seawater but there aren’t any commercially viable methods of extracting it at this time As an aside when you see a meme floating around the internet showing a giant mine where lithium comes from, it’s a lie. As of 2017, most of the world's lithium production is in South America, where lithium-containing brine is extracted from underground pools and concentrated by solar evaporation. The standard extraction technique is to evaporate water from brine. Each batch takes from 18 to 24 months. With so much demand for lithium it’s a fair question to ask... Are Tesla and others doomed? Well…not really The US Geological Survey’s report for 2017 shows that "Worldwide lithium production increased by an estimated 12% in 2016 in response to increased lithium demand for battery applications. Production in Argentina increased nearly 60%, primarily owing to a new brine operation; the leading Argentine producer also increased production. A producer in Chile reported that its production rose by 20%. Two small Australian spodumene operations, one new and one inactive since 2013, planned to begin commercial concentrate production by year end. Worldwide lithium production capacity was reported to be 49,400 tons in 2015; capacity utilization was estimated to be 64% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. Based on average projections by producers and industry analysists of about 14% growth worldwide, consumption of lithium in 2016 is projected to be about 37,800 tons, up from 33,300 tons in 2015. So the trend is going up, but when you look at the overall picture you find that owing to continuing exploration, lithium resources have increased substantially worldwide. Identified lithium resources in the United States, from continental brines, geothermal brines, hectorite, oil field brines, and pegmatites, have been revised to 6.9 million tons. Identified lithium resources in other countries have been revised to approximately 40 million tons. Identified lithium resources in Argentina and Bolivia are about 9 million tons each and in major producing countries are Australia, more than 2 million tons; Chile, more than 7.5 million tons; and China, approximately 7 million tons. Canada’s lithium resources are about 2 million tons. Congo (Kinshasa), Russia, and Serbia have resources of about 1 million tons each. Lithium resources in Brazil and Mexico are approximately 200,000 tons each and Austria, and Zimbabwe have more than 100,000 tons each. Beyond just producing more lithium, companies like Tesla have focused on creating a closed-loop battery recycling program since as early as 2011. So while Tesla drivetrains are rated to go 1M miles, and the batteries will likely last to last north of 350K miles, once the cars do get turned in, Tesla isn’t going to just throw away those precious metals. If you’re an investor in companies reliant on lithium for their batteries such as Tesla, Apple, Google, or any other company making electronics today, you shouldn’t worry about the supply chain. MGX Minerals Inc (CNSX:XMG) Chief Executive Jared Lazerson tells Proactive Investors that the company is creating a third category in global lithium production: lithium brine. "Scale is one thing that makes it very interesting and as well the technology and the ability to process this brine in an efficient, economic way" he says. There are a variety of meters, gauges, warning and indicator lights to monitor battery status. Monitoring these displays and adjusting your personal driving techniques accordingly, makes it possible for you to minimize the energy usage in your vehicle. Behind your steering wheel you'll see two meters. In the upper meter you'll find the Master Warning Lights and the ECO Indicator. The lower meter displays the Lithium-ion Battery Temperature Gauge, Power Meter, Driving Range, Lithium-ion Battery Available Charge Gauge and the Lithium-ion Battery Capacity Level Gauge. The Master Warning Lights illuminate when any warning or indicator lights are illuminated or if any vehicle information warnings appear in the dot matrix liquid crystal display. This light may illuminate for a variety of reasons and the color of the light that illuminates depends on the type of malfunction detected. Consult your Owner's Manual for further information on the Master Warning Lights and additional details on its operation. The ECO Indicator provides you with a method for monitoring and adjusting your personal driving habits in order to reduce energy consumption and minimize energy usage in your vehicle. There are many variables the vehicle uses to calculate the ECO driving level, including: accelerator and brake pedal operations, driving conditions, air conditioner and heater usage, and the traction motor's idling time. These bars display the current ECO driving level. The number of bars increases as ECO driving levels improve. When you achieve a certain ECO driving level, the segments of a large tree will start to appear in the display. The system evaluates the ECO driving level for individual driving styles, which affects the number of segments illuminated on the tree. Each time the large tree reaches maximum size, another small tree appears next to the big tree. The number of small trees increases as ECO driving is improved. These levels are stored in the Navigation System, enabling you to track ECO driving levels over the lifetime of the vehicle. The Lithium-ion Battery Temperature Gauge displays the battery's temperature. The temperature can change based on factors such as, outside air temperature and driving conditions. The temperature is in the normal range when the indicator falls within this area. If the indicator nears the red zone, reduce vehicle speed to decrease the battery temperature. If the indicator rises above normal range, stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible. Do not store the vehicle in temperatures below −13° for over seven days. If the outside temperature is −13° or less, the Lithium-ion battery may freeze and it cannot be charged or provide power to run the vehicle. The Lithium-ion battery heater does not operate if the available Lithium-ion battery charge is less than approximately 30% and the charger is not connected to the vehicle. To help prevent the Lithium-ion battery from freezing, do not leave the vehicle in an environment if temperatures may go below -4° unless the vehicle is connected to a charger. This Power Meter displays the traction motor power consumption and the regenerative brake power supplied to the Lithium-ion battery. The dots will increase or decrease depending on driving conditions. When the battery is charged with power produced by the regenerative brake system the central dot moves to the left. When the battery discharges and power is supplied to the motor the central dot moves to the right. Please consult your Owner's Manual for more information on this feature. The Driving Range displays the estimated distance your vehicle can be driven before recharging is necessary and is constantly calculated based on driving style and operational conditions, as well as the amount of available battery charge and the actual power consumption average. The driving range will vary every time the vehicle is fully charged, based on the actual average energy consumption from the last time the vehicle was driven. Vehicle range may be reduced when the temperature drops below -4°. The Lithium-ion Battery Available Charge Gauge displays the Lithium-ion battery charge available to run the vehicle. The Low Battery Charge Warning Light and the Master Warning Light will appear, when the remaining battery charge is low. You should recharge the vehicle before the gauge reaches the bottom line. The Lithium-ion Battery Capacity Level Gauge displays the amount of charge the Lithium-ion battery is capable of storing. The vehicle battery, like all lithium-ion batteries, will experience gradual capacity loss with time and use. As this occurs, the indicators on the Lithium-ion battery capacity level gauge will be reduced to reflect the current battery capacity.
